Beholder to Visit Bolt D'Oro in 2020

Media Release - Friday January 17

Four-time champion & three-time Breeders’ Cup winner Beholder delivered a dark bay filly by War Front Wednesday night at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington and will be served in 2020 by Bolt D'Oro, who covered over 100 mares for Spendthrift Australia in Victoria last spring.

“Beholder foaled a very nice War Front filly last night on the farm,” said Ned Toffey, General Manager at Spendthrift. “This filly is a good-sized, well-made foal, with a great shoulder and plenty of bone. She couldn’t be doing any better. The delivery was very smooth and uneventful. It was another beautiful effort by Beholder.”

War Front filly from BeholderThe filly was born around 8:30pm and “stood up within 20 minutes” according to Toffey. She’s the third foal for Beholder, who has a two-year-old Uncle Mo colt – now named Q B One – and a yearling filly by Curlin. Beholder will visit Spendthrift stallion Bolt d’Oro in 2020.

Beholder retired from racing in 2016 after an illustrious career that saw her win 18 of 26 starts with earnings of $6,156,600. She earned Eclipse Awards as the outstanding 2-year-old filly of 2012, 3-year-old filly of 2013, and older filly & mare of 2015 and 2016.

Among her 11 Grade 1 victories were three Breeders’ Cup triumphs, including the 2012 Juvenile Fillies, 2013 Distaff, and – in dramatic fashion – the 2016 Distaff over Songbird in what would be her final career start before retiring to Spendthrift Farm. Beholder also scored a memorable win in the 2015 Pacific Classic, facing and defeating males in dominating fashion by 8 1/4-lengths at Del Mar.
