Dame Giselle Heads Millennium Market

Media Release - Wednesday January 15

A trio of Easter graduates dominate early betting for the $2m Inglis Millennium, for which TAB all-in betting is now available.

Dame Giselle - image Steve HartPeter and Paul Snowden’s I Am Invincible filly Dame Giselle, a dominant winner of the inaugural $1m Golden Gift at Rosehill in November, has been installed a $6 TAB outright favourite for the Millennium, which will be run at Warwick Farm on Saturday February 8.

Cellsabeel – which finished an unlucky fourth in the Golden Gift on debut for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace - is on the second line of betting at $7.

Classic graduate Encountabull and Premier graduate Ideas Man (pictured) - winner of the Inglis Banner in the Spring - are next in line at $9 and $11 respectively.

The inaugural running of the Inglis Millennium developed into one of the form 2YO races of 2019 with winner Castelvecchio going on to claim the G1 Champagne Stakes 10 weeks later before returning as a spring 3YO to finish runner up in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes and then the G1 Cox Plate behind Japan’s Horse of the Year, Lys Gracieux.

Castelvecchio, who was purchased by his owners Ottavio and Wendy Galletta for $150,000 at the 2018 Classic Yearling Sale, has won $2,564,750 in prizemoney to date from just nine career starts.

Tabcorp’s Gerard Middleton expected strong turnover again on the Millennium.

“The Golden Gift and Inglis Nursery form looks strongest at this stage heading towards the second running of the Inglis Millennium,’’ Middleton said.

“Peter and Paul Snowden once again have a great crop of juveniles and Dame Giselle and Wild Ruler have opened single digits for the Warwick Farm feature on February 8, along with Cellsabeel for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

“Although Dame Giselle is doubtful to head that way, we expect strong betting on the second edition of the Inglis Millennium which really kick started the career of Castelvecchio and trainer Richard Litt in 2019.’’

The Inglis Race Day, to be run at Warwick Farm on February 8, will also feature the $1m Inglis Sprint for 3YOs over 1100m.

“The inaugural Millennium Day was an overwhelming success both as an event for patrons but also as a strong racing fixture with winners on the day including the likes of Castelvecchio, Fiesta, Samadoubt, Bivouac, Champagne Cuddles, Gem Song and Noble Boy among others,’’ Inglis’ General Manager of Bloodstock Sales and Marketing Sebastian Hutch said.

“The 2020 Millennium is shaping as another fascinating contest. Some of the best 2YO performers we have seen this season are high in betting, but we have also seen a number of promising candidates for the race emerge at the trials in recent weeks who have the potential to make a big impression on the race.’’

Millennium Day precedes the beginning of the 2020 Inglis Select Yearling Sales Series, which begins with the Classic Sale.

A total of 808 yearlings have been catalogued for Classic, which runs for the three days of Sunday February 9 until Tuesday February 11 at Riverside Stables.
