That's A Wrap - Gold Coast Yearling Sale Reaches New Heights

Media Release - Tuesday January 14

Records have tumbled across the board as the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale came to a close at Queensland's holiday playground today.

Today Book Three of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale as well as the Gold Coast Summer Racehorse Sale were held with the top price of $105,000 given for the Godolphin offered racehorse Roosevelt.

Roosevelt, a last start runner up at the Beaumont track on Boxing Day, was snapped up by Ultima Racing in conjunction with Jayven See from Singapore.

For the third year in succession the Gold Coast Yearling Sale became the highest grossing in Southern Hemisphere history.

Across the entire three books of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale over $188.5 million was traded. The clearance rate was over 87 per cent.

The Summer Racehorse Sale averaged $32,250 and was well received with buyers from across Australia as well as abroad.

"It's been another incredible carnival," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch reported. "To eclipse last year's record breaking sale was a goal - but deep down I didn't think it was possible."

"To return record figures for gross and average and a clearance rate across all six days of yearlings at over 87 per cent is incredibly rewarding."

"I would like to congratulate all buyers and vendors who played their part in making this year's Gold Coast Yearling Sale another record breaking auction."

"The team at Magic Millions has again stepped up to the plate and worked long hours to produce a world leading event for visitors to the Gold Coast."

"Over the past couple of days I have received many messages from clients around the world and they tell us that Magic Millions are world leaders for our industry and for this I am very proud of my team," Bowditch added.

The Magic Millions sales focus next switches west for the Perth Yearling Sale (February 17-18) followed quickly by the Tasmanian Yearling Sale (February 24), the Adelaide Yearling Sale (March 10-11) before returning to the Gold Coast for the March Yearling Sale (March 16-17).
