Great Value

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 13

A champion sire is always a champion sire, but their fortunes in the sale ring can wax and wane and in the case of this one, if you bought his progeny this year, you’re already ahead of the game.

Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Snitzel sired Away Game to win the MM 2YO Classic and has taken the lead on the Australian 2YO Sires List by earnings and is equal leader by winners.

He has also had 30 winners in the past 30 days and eight in the last seven so has the pedal to the metal as we move into 2020.

That looks like a sire in great form, right?

However in the sale ring last week the Snitzel stock did not sell to previous levels and in fact recorded an average of $312,381, which was his lowest at this sale since 2015.

It’s still a big number and saw him finish sixth on the sires be average list, but in the context of Snitzel his stock appeared to be very good buying in comparison to previous years for a stallion that is doing the job on the track.

If you’ve ever wanted to buy a Snitzel this would appear to be the right year to invest.
