Magic Pinhook Winners

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 13

A record breaking Magic Millions made for a fertile ground for pinhookers with many producing good results and a full list with highlights in this story.

The best result was achieved by Widden Stud who consigned a Frosted (USA) filly from Fast Fleet that made $650,000 to the bid of Spendthrift Australia.

Frosted filly from Fast Fleet

The half-sister to Santa Ana Lane was a standout weanling at the Magic Millions National Sale where she was bought by UK based Redwall Bloodstock for $300,000 from the Aquis draft and has done nothing but improve since.

Queensland based Lyndhurst Stud Farm would have been well pleased with their $400,000 for a Deep Field colt from stakes-winner Tempest Tost that was bought by Patrick Lee.

They purchased him as a weanling for $105,000 from the Rothwell Park draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and had the benefit of a massive pedigree update as the current two year-old from Tempest Tost is spring stakes-winner Mildred, who has won two of three starts banking over $146,000 in prizemoney.

Aquis Farm’s Divine Prophet has been one of the talking sires of the sale generating some spectacular and consistent results for a $22,000 sire.

Divine Prophet colt from Tellora

New Zealand based Lyndhurst Farm enjoyed a big result selling a Divine Prophet colt from Tellora for $375,000 to Ardross Bloodstock after sourcing the youngster for $90,000 from the Rothwell Park draft at the Inglis Weanling Sale.

Next on the list is an interesting one by Shalaa (IRE) from Malukar that was offered by Arrowfield Stud and made $300,000 to the bid of Freedman Brothers/Rick Connolly Bloodstock.

Shalaa colt from Malukar

He’s an interesting one as his dam Malukar spent her initial years at stud in New Caledonia for owner Jean-Ronald Marinacce, who has sent in a number pf pictures to the Breednet foal Gallery including one of Malukar’s 2012 foal by Aetherius that would end up becoming four time winner Tristram Hill.

When Malukar went to New Caledonia, she was a Viking Ruler mare with little happening on her page but come 2012 a horse called Dundeel came along and she is a half-sister to his dam.

Long story short she ended up at Arrowfield Stud in 2015 and has produced two colts by Olympic Glory (IRE) before this colt by Shalaa.

Bred by Arrowfield in partnership with Jean-Ronald Marinacce, the Shalaa colt was one of 24 weanlings offered by Arrowfield Stud at the 2019 Inglis Scone Online Thoroughbred Sale and was bought back by Arrowfield for $37,500 making him the most expensive of that group of Arrowfield consigned weanlings.

The only other horse Arrowfield bought back from that draft is a Mikki Isle (Jpn) colt from Snitzel mare Western Cape has been entered for Inglis Classic by Arrowfield as Lot is catalogued 790.
