Barbie Storms Home for a Magical Feature

Media Release - Saturday January 11

It was a case of third time lucky at the Magic Millions for popular mare Outback Barbie who, after placings in the 2YO Classic in 2018 and 3YO Guineas in 2019, won the $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Quality (1300m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

In steady rain for the final race of the day, Tony Gollan’s daughter of Spirit of Boom thundered down the outside of the track to overhaul River Racer and Ef Troop in a photo finish.Outback Barbie emerges from the gloom to capture the QTIS Quality - image Grant Courtney

A $210,000 purchase out of the Eureka Stud draft at the 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Outback Barbie has now won four races and more than $1.3 million in prizemoney during her 19-start career.

Gollan said he was thrilled to see the Stakes winner break through on one of racing’s biggest stages.

"It was her third go here on Magic Millions day, she ran third in the Classic a couple of years ago and then third here again last year (in the Guineas)," Gollan said.

"She just keeps trying so hard."

"She was coming off a below par run at Eagle Farm but I knew I had her spot on today and I’m so thrilled she won."

The win gave jockey James McDonald a winning double after his earlier success aboard Madam Rouge in the Magic Millions Snippets.
