Regal Power Completes a Great Day for Pierro

Mark Smith - Saturday December 21

With four winners around Australia on Saturday and one at Sha Tin, including the Randwick winner Spencer and Eagle Farm winner Cruze, Pierro looks certain to end 2019 atop the sires table after the Bob and Sandra Peters homebred Regal Power put the stamp on a superb season with a facile win in the $250,000 Group II Ted Van Heemst Stakes at Ascot.

Winner of last season’s Group II WATC Derby Regal Power kick-started his 4yo season with his win in the Group 1 WATC Railway Stakes at Ascot on November 23.

A game last start sixth in the Group 1 Kingston Town Stakes, Regal Power had the run of the race one out one back with Willie Pike parking him behind his biggest threat Gatting.

Peeled out three wide on the home turn, Regal Power quickly gathered Gatting (Hard Spun) in and with Pike sitting motionless the son of Pierro trotted in by two and a quarter lengths with three-quarters of a length to the winner’s stablemate Star Exhibit (Statue Of Liberty) in third who was just ahead of another stablemate in Mississippi Delta (High Chaparral).

Trained by Grant and Alana Williams, Regal Power advances his record to 6 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $1,252,470.

“The distance and the WFA conditions suited him,” Bob Peters said.

“I’m not sure (if he starts in the Perth Cup), we will see how he pulls up and it depends on the weight he gets. We will monitor him over the next few days.Pierro heads the chapion sires table image Mark Smith

“Both (his stablemates) will meet him a lot better at the weights and they were both good runs.”

Regal Power is the third winner from stakes-winning Redoute's Choice mare Broadway Belle and is a full brother to Group II WATC Derby winner Action.

He is also a brother-in-blood to the Peters homebreds Arcadia Queen, winner of the Group I WATC Kingston Town Classic and Arcadia Prince, winner of the Group III WATC Scahill Stakes.

Broadway Belle has been a regular visitor to Coolmore and has a 2yo colt by Vancouver that was passed in short of his $500,000 reserve at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and has been named Vanman.

Broadway Belle has a yearling filly by American Pharoah (USA) and on October 16 foaled a filly by Pierro.

Pierro has 25 entries at the Magic Millions, 13 at the Inglis Classic and 19 catalogued for the Inglis Premier.
