Showpiece Stars in Debut Victory

Media Release - Friday December 20

Foxton-based trainer Sue Walsh’s $1,600 gavelhouse.com buy in June has quickly returned her purchase price and more with a gutsy debut victory at Waipukurau last week.

ShowpieceBought as an untried two-year-old, Showpiece (NZ) (Showcasing) jumped from barrier six in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series 1200 and settled mid field. Partnered with Johnathan Parkes, from the 600m mark the pair began to progress around the field for a narrow but determined victory.

“We put a syndicate together to race her and everyone was thrilled with the result at Waipukurau,” Walsh commented.

“We went and inspected her before we bought her and have only had her for about six months so to get a win so soon is great.”

“She’s since had a week off in the paddock and is now back in and we’ll aim to race her in another three-year-old race in early January.”
