One to Watch – Mornington

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 17

The familiar colours of Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan were carried to victory at Mornington on Tuesday by a blue-blooded daughter of Tavistock from the revered Eight Carat (GB) family.

Our Crown Jewels as a yearlingTrained by Phillip Stokes, Our Crown Jewels was having her first run this season after placing at her first two starts earlier in the year back in July.

She settled behind the leaders and when shown clear running hit the line hard to win the 1200m maiden by a haed.

“It’s a great honour to  train a winner for Sir Patrick Hogan,” said Phillip Stokes.

“She’s going to get over a lot further as she is very dour. We might look to aim her towards something like the South Australian Oaks.”

A $750,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Cambridge Stud draft for Peter Moody, she runs for Moody and the Hogans.

Our Crown Jewels is a half-sister to Group winners Forever Loved and Zephyron and is the sixth winner from seven to race from stakes-winner Diamond Like, a  full sister to Group I winner Viking Ruler from Group I winner Tristalove.
