Advantage Bowman but Avdulla not done with yet

Tom Walter - Wednesday July 26

Brenton Avdulla has resolved to 'go down fighting' in his pursuit of a maiden Sydney jockeys' premiership despite Hugh Bowman establishing a commanding 2-1/2-win lead with just one meeting remaining.

Avdulla managed one winner to Bowman's three at Canterbury on Wednesday, putting the latter in the box seat to claim this season's title honours.

But after a limited book of rides in his last two metropolitan meetings, Avdulla is afforded eight engagements in the final round at Rosehill this Saturday.

"It's hard to fire a gun when you've got no ammo to shoot with," Avdulla said.

"Saturday was a clear example. I missed out in the first four on Saturday and missed out on the first three today but as soon as I get an opportunity I'm ready to strike.

"I'm in it to win it and I'll go down fighting."

Bowman, who has one more ride than Avdulla at the weekend as he looks to continue a whirlwind finish to the season, attributed much of his recent success to his manager Bryan Haskins.

"He's been a great support, a great part of the team for a very long time and together we make it happen, it's good," Bowman said.

"I hope they (Saturday's rides) are good. If they aren't then someone will have some answering to do."
