We Can’t Wait to See – Lots 200 – 300 MM 2020 – Nicks That Click

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 11

Our ‘Nicks that Click’ stories are some of the most popular on Breednet so we thought in the lead up to Magic Millions and before the majority of yearling images are uploaded we’d assess the pedigrees and see what jumps off the page as a horse we just can’t wait to see!

Lot 226 Colt Exceed and Excel x De Groove, by Dehere (USA) – Bhima Thoroughbreds

Champion sire Exceed and Excel has a good strike rate with former successful shuttler Dehere (USA), the two combining in the pedigrees of five stakes-winners.

The direct cross of Exceed and Excel over daughters of Dehere has delivered 16 winners from 19 runners including three stakes-winners so that’s 15.7% stakes-winners to runners which is higher than Exceed and Excel’s overall stakes-winner to runner strike rate of 8.1%.

This colt has two full brothers that are both good winners and it’s hard not to think he can be at least on a par with them.

Lot 263 Filly Deep Field x Egyptian Cross, by Commands – Cressfield

The idea of line breeding to stallions from the same family is one that plenty of people see merit in and this colt is a good example being by Deep Field from a daughter of Commands, with both sires tracing to Eight Carat’s daughter Cotehele House.

There have been two runners bred this way so far and both are winners including Group II winner Cosmic Force, who is the best horse to date for his sire.

Lot 278 Filly Exceed and Excel x Erinys, by Bernardini (USA) – Twin Hills Stud

The grand-dam of this filly is by Elusive Quality (USA) and that is the aspect of this pedigree that caught our eye as he has a good record with Exceed and Excel combining in the pedigrees of 13 stakes-winners, four of them Group I winners at a strike rate of 9.4%.

Exceed and Excel over daughters of Bernardini has only limited numbers but four of five runners are winners and given this family has already produced a Group II winner by Exceed and Excel in Calliope it’s hard not to think this filly has a lot to offer.

Lot 281 Colt Sebring x Estancia Rios, by Hussonet (USA) – Widden Stud

Sebring has not had a lot of opportunity with daughters of Hussonet, who is an outstanding broodmare sire. There have been just seven runners and six have won headed by Group I winner Lucky Bubbles and stakes-placed Huntly Castle, so there is definitely cause for optimism.

His dam won up to 1800m and further back there is plenty of good European staying blood so this is one youngster that should not be distance limited.

Lot 292 Filly Not a Single Doubt x Extremely, by Hussonet (USA) – Yulong

This filly is a full brother to dual Group I winner Extreme Choice so it’s hardly ground breaking to have her on the list, but the results of Not a Single Doubt over Hussonet mares is worth revisiting.

10 winners from 15 runners, three of them stakes-winners in Extreme Choice, Gunnison and Selenia, all Group winners that equate to 20% stakes-winners to runners.

More to follow in coming days.
