When we uploaded this foal to our gallery this morning and released the picture to our Facebook account there was intense interest in this most striking youngster so we thought a follow up story was warranted.

Gold Heart colt from Maybe Mabelline

Glacial GoldSent to us by his breeder David Grant, the Operations Manager at Sun Stud, this colt is by Gold Heart, a son of striking cremello thoroughbred stallion Glacial Gold (USA) from Maybe Mabelline, a pure white mare by the strikingly marked stallion Profile in Style (USA).

“The Gold Heart colt is an interesting one and I’m told by those who know more than me he’s an extremely rare thoroughbred in his colouring,” said Grant.

“He is looking like he will be more buckskin in colour and have the black mane and tail, but unlike your typical buckskins, has a lot of paint colouring characteristics.”

The colt is the third foal of Maybe Mabelline, whose first foal is a white filly by Glacial gold and her  second is this yearling colt by Moonlark (USA), another strikingly marked chestnut sire.

Moonlark colt from Maybe Mabelline“He has just been named Navajo and is inbred to Secretariat. He will be retained to race and hopefully be my foundation stallion,” said Grant.

“I want to have a serious crack at breeding coloured thoroughbreds that have some pedigree behind them and are competitive on the track and commercially appealing.

“It will take a few years to come to fruition but if nothing else I know they’ll always find good homes after racing!”

Maybe Mabelline is being bred to Sun Stud’s quality Snitzel son Thronum this season, so it will be interesting to see what she can produce to a bay stallion.
