Sizzling Filly Defies The Odds

Mark Smith - Saturday December 7

Just six runners went to the post the QTIS Two-Year-Old over 1200 metres at Doomben on Saturday with three by Spirit Of Boom and two by Spill The Beans but the David Vandyke-trained Sizzling filly Red Stiletto saw them all off and earn a trip to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 11.

Making her career debut Red Stiletto settled back last for Robbie Fraad before charging home to defeat the favoured runners Way Beyond (Spill The Beans) by a length with Mass Destruction (Spirit Of Boom) a half-length back in third.

“She has been lazy and it was no surprise when she was last early. But I knew she had ability and she showed it with her finish," Vandyke said.

"Red Stiletto was going to have another trial but I saw this race and thought it was a good race to try her at 1200m.

"She will be improved out of sight for that run and why not go to the Millions.”

Purchased for $120,000 by Anthony McAnulty out of the Element Hill draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Red Stiletto is the first foal of the well-performed Red Element mare Glorious Red, a 5-time winner of over $230,000.

The dam of Glorious Red, Glorious Show (Show A Heart) is a daughter of the Listed winner Khaptrist (Sir Tristram) a half-sister to the Group 1 VATC Oakleigh Plate winner Khaptingly (Bletchingly) out of the Group II AJC Surround Stakes winner Khaptivaan (Adraan).

Element Hill will consign a Nicconi colt out of Glorious Red to January’s Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.

Newgate Farm’s Sizzling has four lots catalogued for the Magic Millions and two entered for the Inglis Classic.
