Bruce Slade is launching Kestrel ThoroughbredsNew Zealand-born Slade has amassed tremendous experience through a number of roles in the Australasian industry, from racing manager of the Gai Waterhouse stable to general manager of Newgate.

Slade believes now is the time to embark on his own venture, a bloodstock business consultancy that focuses on the key strengths he has developed through his career – customer service, communications and sales.

“This move to running my own business allows me the autonomy to focus my energy in the areas I most enjoy across different aspects of the thoroughbred industry,” Slade said.

“I have learned from the best in both the racing and breeding divisions, and so for me Kestrel Thoroughbreds, as a bloodstock business consultancy, is my vehicle to now service and add value to others.”

Slade will also serve as a consultant to the burgeoning Edmonds Racing stable on the Gold Coast, lending his considerable communication, customer service and sales expertise.

“I am also thrilled to begin working closely with Toby and Trent of Edmonds Racing from 1 January 2020,” he said.

“I have admired this stable's strike rate and growth from afar, along with having had my own personal success with them in recent years, and I believe their ability, along with their unique strategic position, can only equate to mega upside with the right execution in the coming years.”

Slade will remain with Newgate Farm in a new role of director of stallions, focussing on stallion acquisition, syndication, nominations and sales.

“I am so grateful to Henry Field and the Newgate Farm owners and team, who have been so supportive in this change,” he said.

“I wholeheartedly believe in the vision for the farm, and in the way that Henry conducts business, so I am very much looking forward to continuing my contribution to the upward spiral of Newgate via the stallion side of their business.”
