One to Watch – Wangaratta

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 25

14 runners in the open maiden over 1000 metres at Wangaratta on Monday and this three year-old daughter of Shooting to Win had them covered bringing a pedigree update for her Karaka 2020 bound half-brother by Medaglia D’Oro (USA).

Shooting to Win is the sire of TalaaqyA homebred for Shadwell prepared by the Hayes Dabernig team, flashy chestnut Talaaqy showed good natural talent to race up on the pace and forged clear to win a competitive race by three-quarters of a length for Lachlan King at her second start.

“She’s still very green, so she’ll take a lot of improvement from this,” King said.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park for Shadwell, Talaaqy is the first living foal of Exceed and Excel mare Razeena, a three-quarter sister to stakes-placed Multahem from an international family featuring Group I winners Dolphin Street, Saffron Walden and Insight.

Razeena was on-sold by Shadwell at the 2018 Inglis Broodmare Sale where she was bought by Aquis for $80,000 and later produced a colt for them by Medaglia D’Oro that they sold at the .2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $150,000 to Koru Thoroughbreds.

Koru Thoroughbreds will present the Medaglia D’Oro colt as Lot 216 at Karaka 2020 in Book 1.

Talaaqy is the tenth winner this season for Darley’s Shooting to Win, whose progeny are headed by Kubrick, winner of the inaugural $1million ATC Bondi Stakes.
