2020 Inglis Classic Sale Catalogue Now Online

Breednet - Sunday November 17

The catalogue for the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale – the sale that has produced the winner of a Melbourne Cup, Golden Slipper, Victoria Derby and Inglis Millennium in recent years – is now available online.

In total, 808 yearlings have been catalogued - 613 in Book 1 and 195 in the Highway Session - for the sale at Riverside Stables in a revised three-day format of Sunday February 9 until Tuesday February 11.

Book 1 will take place on the Sunday, Monday and start of Tuesday before the Highway Session rounds the sale out on Tuesday February 11 following the completion of Book 1.

The progressive nature of the Classic Sale in recent years is illustrated by the fact that it has been responsible for eight G1-winning graduates since 2018, including four G1-winning 2YOs or 3YOs in Sydney and Melbourne.

Progeny of 103 sires such as leading lights I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Fastnet Rock, Dundeel, Not A Single Doubt, Pierro, Sebring, Lonhro, Zoustar and Written Tycoon are included, as well as progeny of 31 First Season Sires such as the likes of American Pharoah, Capitalist, Astern, Divine Prophet, Extreme Choice, Shalaa, Flying Artie, Star Turn and Xtravagant.

Of the 808 lots catalogued, 734 are BOBS Eligible.

The catalogue features a broad cross section of vendors, with Widden Stud leading the way with 46 entries ahead of Arrowfield Stud (40), Newhaven Park (35), Kitchwin Hills (30) and Newgate Farm and Sledmere Stud (29).

“There was an overwhelming demand for places in the sale, but we have looked to work constructively with breeders for many months to finalise a well-diversified catalogue that we feel will find favour with the market,’’ Inglis’ NSW Bloodstock Manager Chris Russell said.

“We are hugely grateful for the support of the sale by the vendors and are committed to working with them to help to achieve an outstanding set of results.

“Our sales keep producing good horses – 39 G1 winners since the start of 2018, more than double our nearest competitor – as well as 10 individual winners of $1m-plus contests in Australia so far this season.

“Buyers know that they can buy well at our sales, starting with Classic, which has consistently proven itself to be Australasia’s best-value sale.

“The success of recent graduates of Classic has been incredible with the likes of Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare, Slipper winner She Will Reign and stars such as Castelvecchio, Shadow Hero, Samadoubt, Yankee Rose and I Am A Star to name just a few.

“Since 2016 Classic graduates have also won races such as the Blue Diamond, Inglis Millennium, Sires Produce Stakes, Victoria Derby, Champagne Stakes, Lightning Stakes, The Galaxy, Winx Stakes and Spring Champion Stakes etc and we absolutely believe there are many more Stakes winners and Group 1 winners to be found in the 2020 catalogue.

“The introduction of the Highway Session last year had a very favourable response by both vendors and buyers and we look forward to that going to even greater heights next year.’’

Hard copies of the Classic catalogue will be available in a fortnight.

To request a catalogue, email catalogue@inglis.com.au or call Inglis on +61 2 9399 7999.

All yearlings offered at an Inglis Yearling Sale are eligible for entry into the lucrative $8m Inglis Race Series which includes the $2m Inglis Millennium for 2YOs and the $1m Inglis Sprint for 3YOs.
