One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Sunday November 17

It was a case of little fish are sweet for the powerful Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable when they unleashed this expensive Not a Single Doubt two year-old at Canberra on Sunday.

Farnan as a yearlingFarnan won his only previous trial on November 6 and made it look all too easy on race day, travelling on the pace for Winona Costin and kicking away to win the 1000 metre juvenile by nearly five lengths in a slick 57.65 seconds.

Farnan was a $550,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Vinery Stud draft for Phoenix T'Breds (II) Ltd/Aquis Farms Pty Ltd and runs in the Aquis colours with Phoenix Thoroughbreds, who bred him, also retaining an interest.

A three-quarter brother to stakes-winner Sandbar, Farnan is the third winner from Group III winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Tallow, who was bought at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2017 for $250,000 by David Lucas when carrying Farnan. She has not produced a foal since then.
