Tuscan Queen Wins G3 Champion Fillies

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 16

WA based owner/breeders Bob and Sandra Peters have had phenomenal success with their homebreds, but it was a Fastnet  Rock filly that they purchased from Inglis Easter that claimed their latest Black Type success with Tuscan Queen capturing the Group III WATC Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.

Tuscan Queen - image Western Racepix TwitterTrained by Grant and Alana Williams, Tuscan Queen was a short priced favourite and cruised clear to win by more than a length taking her overall record to three wins and a second from just four starts with prizemoney in excess of $170,000.

She was super impressive in zooming home from near last on the turn to win running away and looks as though longer journeys will hold no fears for her.

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Belmont Bloodstock on behalf of Mr and Mrs Peters, Tuscan Queen is the best of three winners from three foals to race from Group III winning Zabeel mare Tavarnelle, who comes from the family of Group I winner Zirna and Group III winner Crafty Irna.

Bred by the Crismale family’s Matrix Bloodstock, Tuscan Queen keeps the record perfect for Tavarnelle, who had a Fastnet Rock yearling colt sell at Magic Millions this year for $100,000.

She has a yearling filly to follow by American Pharoah (USA).

Tuscan Queen is the 151st stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock and is the seventh bred from a daughter of Zabeel, a very successful nick that runs at 12.9% stakes-winners to runners with three of those stakes-winners being Group I winners Atlantic Jewel, Avantage and Planet Rock.
