Greg Polson previews Wyong Sunday August 27

Greg Polson - Sunday August 27

With seven winners from her last 16 rides punters shouldn't be concerned when they see apprentice Louise Day as the jockey on a Kris Lees-trained galloper with her only ride for the stable at Wyong on Sunday looking genuine value.

Originally from Ireland, Day rode trackwork for Ciaron Maher in Melbourne before switching to the Lees stable at Newcastle where she has done an excellent job with limited opportunities.

The limited opportunities arise because Day can only ride for the Lees stable due to the nature of her work visa.

Day rides Fleeteor for Lees in the Star 104.5 La Gioconda - F&M Class 4 Handicap (1600m) with the apprentice's 3kg allowance boosting the mares chance considerably.

Fleeteor's original 61kg impost looked a significant hurdle but with 58kg after Day's claim Fleeteor enters Sunday's assignment with a winnable weight.

A winner of four of her 14 career starts to date, Fleeteor sprinted well fresh when a benchmark 70 winner on the Beaumont Newcastle circuit resuming two runs but the edge was off her when a beaten favourite at Taree last start.

Fleeteor has won two races at 1600m and is looking for the step up to the mile third-up.

With the advantage of the claim for Day, Fleeteor looks excellent value for punters with $5.50 available in early betting.
