Racing NSW Lodges 21 Page Complaint over ABC's Final Race Segment

Breednet - Thursday November 14

Racing NSW Chairman, Russel Balding has made a  21 page complaint to the ABC over the ‘Final Race’ segment broadcast on the 7.30 Report claiming the national broadcaster had fallen far short of its statutory duty to ensure “news and information is accurate and impartial according to the recognized standards” and its Editorial Policy requirements to “uphold the fundamental journalistic principles of accuracy and impartiality”.

Part of the complaint states there was “no effort by the program to explain that Racing NSW has no association with, or control over, Queensland’s Meramist Abattoir or was aware of the atrocities occurring at that facility.”

It questions why Racing NSW CEO was not shown or made aware of the sickening footage at Queensland’s Meramist Abattoir prior to being interviewed for the program while others interviewed “appear to have either been involved in obtaining, or provided with, privileged access to the footage”.

And also questions why, despite the ABC and other parties involved becoming aware of the animal cruelty over a two year-period, no report was made to authorities.
