Catkins Half-Sister Tops Inglis Digital November Online Sale

A half-sister to multiple Group II winner Catkins, in foal to exciting Aquis-based first season sire Brave Smash, has topped Inglis Digital’s November (Early) Online Sale, selling to Mark Player’s International Thoroughbred Solutions Pty Ltd. for $245,000 (plus GST), a record price for a broodmare on the platform.

By Sepoy out of Catbird mare Salix Caprea, Kittie Kins was offered by Aquis Farm carrying an early season service to the dual G1-winning sprinter.

Kittle Kins sold for $245,000 in foal to Brave Smash“The mare was bought for a good Victorian client, to be a foundation mare for hopefully years to come,” Player said.

“The resulting foal for Kittie Kins will be bred on a lovely cross with Brave Smash which was particularly attractive to my client, being Deep Impact over Danehill, a cross that really works.”

“My client actually found Kittie Kins when scrolling through the Inglis Digital catalogue and they’re very happy to have secured her, it’s great to see operations like Aquis offering these types of mares,” Player said.

Kittie Kins is also the fourth highest individual lot for Inglis Digital following Manaya ($400,000), Set Goals ($321,000) and a 25% share in Mustajeer ($320,000).

Well-bred 4YO mare Collectable was the second-top lot of the sale, with her current trainer Robbie Griffiths going to $115,000 to secure the daughter of Sebring and Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake (NZ).

Collectable finished fourth to Verry Elleegant in the G3 Ethereal Stakes last spring and was offered by Esker Lodge Australia as a racing or breeding prospect.

“A couple of shareholders didn’t want to stay in Collectable so Inglis Digital offered the owners group a transparent way to dissolve the partnership and let the market decide her value,” said Griffiths’ foreman Reid Balfour.

“We’ve bought a couple of clients out and the remaining shares will be offered back to those staying in.

Collectable was a $300,000 Inglis Premier yearling and is a two-time winner, with earnings of more than $130,000.

“The best part about the whole process is the mare hasn’t had to leave her environment during the five day Online Sale,” Balfour said.

“Collectable will now go for a spell before an autumn campaign, where she can hopefully get black type on the board as she has a lovely pedigree being out of a Group 1 winner."

The sales of Kittie Kins and Collectable brings the number of lots sold for $100,000 or more since the start of 2018 to 37.

Stakes placed Pierro gelding Canyonero – a last start winner at Hawkesbury for Mark Newnham Racing – was the third-top lot of the November (Early) Sale, selling for $85,000 to Litt Racing.

105 lots were offered for an overall gross of $993,400 and a clearance of 71%.

Inglis Digital has now turned over more than $20 million in 2019, with another two Auctions scheduled before the end of the year.
