Mares in Foal to Justify in Hot Demand

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 6

Scat Daddy’s Triple Crown hero Justify (USA) is currently working his way through his first stellar book of mares at Coolmore Australia, while in North America the first mares offered for sale in foal to Justify lit up the sale ring at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in Kentucky on Tuesday.

JustifyAstute agent David Redvers paid $US1.2million for Grade III winner Diva Delite, the dam of five-time Grade I winner Midnight Bisou.

Redvers said her mating to Justify played a large part in the purchase with the stallion fitting her well.

“We loved her. We thought she’s a beauty and we thought she suits the covering sire spectacularly well. Certainly you’re always looking for a broodmare who is going to suit a stallion physically,” he told the Racing Post.

“She’s got the quality and the size that’s going to work well with him. The package is what you’re after and it’s a very, very exciting package."

Other big sales for mares in foal to Justify included Hence (Galileo), bought for $900,000 by Newtown Investments, Easter Lily (Galileo), bought by China Horse Club for $850,000 and Lastofthsummerwine (Sky Mesa) bought by Magnolia Mares for $775,000.

The only undefeated Triple Crown winner in history, Justify is an exceptional individual that has proven a popular choice for Australian breeders this spring.
