Fairytale Result in Spendthrift Guy Walter Handicap

Media Release - Monday November 4

Spendthrift Australia were honoured to sponsor the sixth race at Goulburn on Sunday, the $50,000 Spendthrift Guy Walter Handicap for fillies and mares over 1300m.

The race was named after the late gentleman and respected trainer Guy Walter, whose stables were formerly based at Warwick Farm in Sydney and at Goulburn.

Overshare is by champion sire I Am InvincibleAs All Sassitude (Delago Deluxe) saluted in the race after getting the run through on the rail, it was a very special victory for her ownership group.

Her dam Sakura Rose was purchased by Guy Walter as a yearling for the same owners and breeders of All Sassitude. Sakura Rose’s racing career was curtailed due to a paddock accident and as a result the group decided to breed from her.

“All Sassitude was the second foal from her, and it was her fourth run at Goulburn for her fourth win,” said Howard Lawrence, member of the ownership group.

“It was extremely special for all of the ties to come together for the one event, and the fact that it was for Guy Walter.

“Wendy was there to see her run in honour of her late husband Guy, and it’s great that the syndicate that raced her dam are now involved in the breeding of the subsequent horses.”

The 5-year-old mare has been unbeaten at Goulburn and notched up her fourth career win under trainer John Thompson with jockey Rachel King in the saddle.

As part of the sponsorship between Spendthrift Australia and Goulburn, the ownership group of All Sassitude also receive a 2020 nomination to multiple Stakes winner Overshare.

The son of Champion sire I Am Invincible has produced a quality crop of first foals this season and stands for a fee of $11,000 inc. GST.

“We’ll put it to everybody in the ownership group, but it’s possible that Sakura Rose will go to Overshare. From what I hear, it should be a very good cross,” Lawrence said.
