Akari wins her first stakes race - image Steve HartAkari showed good promise last season with two placings behind subsequent Group 2 winner Libertini and has progressed quickly this Spring from her maiden win at Wyong to success in the $140,000 ATC Reginald Allen Quality 1400m LR on Everest day.

True, Akari’s earnings to date are a fraction of the $1.05 million paid for her at the 2018 Inglis Easter Sale by  Jadeskye Racing, her trainer Brad Widdup & Andrew Williams Bloodstock, with Neil Werrett a later addition to her ownership. However, her newly achieved stakes-winning status and her strong international pedigree underpin her value, and if she is like her best relatives, she will continue to develop.

Akari was bred by Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm from the Neo Universe mare Asterix whose first, Japanese-born foal Aerolithe is a Group 1-wining miler in Japan. This is also the family of Champion Sprinter-Miler and two-time Group 1 winner Mikki Isle, currently serving his second book of mares at Arrowfield.

Akari was purchased for $1.05 million from Arrowfield’s Inglis Easter consignment by Jadeskye Racing, her trainer Brad Widdup & Andrew Williams Bloodstock, with Neil Werrett subsequently joining the ownership. Asterix produced a second Snitzel filly at Arrowfield last year before returning to Japan.

Akari is Snitzel’s 4th  stakeswinner this season after Group winners Exhilarates & Redzel and  Flemington Listed winner Wayupinthesky (also sold by Arrowfield).
