New Stakes-Winner for Nicconi

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 18

Progressive Nicconi gelding Nistaan has been getting better and better as he works through the grades and scored his first Black Type win on Friday when scoring a resounding win in the $100,000 Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Nistaan powered clear to win the 1600 metre feature by more than tow lengths taking his overall record to four wins and six placings from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $190,000.

A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Musk Creek Farm draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Nistaan runs for a big syndicate that includes Musk Creek, who also bred him.

Nistaan is the best of three winners from ill-fated Fustaan, a half-sister to Group III winner Sharnee Rose from the Asawir branch of the East Date family that has produced Group I winners Rewaaya, Sense of Occasion and Ertijaal.

Fustaan died this year and her last foal born in 2018 is a colt by All Too Hard.

Nistaan is the 18th stakes-winner and third this season for Nicconi, whose star sprinter Nature Strip will run in the $14million the Everest this Saturday.

Nicconi stands at Widden stud at a fee of $38,500.
