G3 Winner Semari Tops Inglis Digital Sale

Media Release - Thursday October 17

Epona Stakes winner Semari has topped another million-dollar Inglis Digital Online Sale, with David Wallace securing the New Zealand-bred daughter of Sebring for $230,000.

Russian Revolution is the likely partner for SemariIt puts Semari in the top five lots ever sold on Inglis Digital, joining Manaya ($400,00), Set Goals ($321,000), 25% share in Mustajeer ($320,000) and Augustus ($210,000).

Out of the Zabeel mare Kumari (NZ), Semari was offered as a breeding prospect in the October (Early) catalogue by Busuttin Racing to disperse a partnership.

“It’s the first time I’ve purchased off Inglis Digital and the whole process was superb from a buyer’s perspective,” Wallace said.

“The fact I received a text message every time I was outbid and then notifications telling me I’m the highest bidder, meant I always knew what was going on.

“I’m looking at sending Semari to Russian Revolution, as I’m a shareholder in him – plus the reports on his foals are very positive,” Wallace said.

The second top lot of the sale was the Gary Portelli-consigned mare Secret Lady, a winner of the Golden Gift as a 2YO.

Offered as a broodmare, the daughter of Choisir and multiple WA stakes winner For Your Eyes Only, was purchased by Telemon Thoroughbreds for $100,000.

“We were absolutely ecstatic with the sale of Secret Lady,” Portelli said.

“We had received numerous offers for her in the past, but the result online exceeded our expectations and that’s the great benefit of selling on Inglis Digital, it’s transparent for all parties especially when dispersing a syndicate.

“You also get a bit of an adrenaline rush simply watching the last half hour or so of a lot sell on the computer, I had excited owners texting me every time there was another bid.”

The third top lot of the sale was the Chris Waller-consigned Exoteric (GB), a 7YO duel Listed winner who was sold to Stephen and Yasmin Maskiell in Tasmania for $65,000.

The October (Early) Online Sale grossed $1.23 million – the 11th million-dollar aggregate recorded this year for the platform, while the clearance rate was 81% for the 151-strong catalogue.

Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth said the turnover of the sale was exceptional, aided by a high clearance rate and average of $10,433.

“It’s clear there is an appetite for quality race fillies and mares – and we’ve found this platform is an easy and convenient way to capitalise on market interest.

“Now that we are well and truly into the season, we anticipate the focus will shift to mares in foal to exciting young stallion prospects.

“The convenience of the online platform means fillies recently bought online, could be offered back through as ‘in foal’ mares leading into Christmas,” Melmeth said.
