G1 Coolmore Next for Deep Field Colt

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 12
A brilliant Group III winner last season at two, exciting Deep Field colt showed he was ready for his spring grand final of the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes with a brilliant front running win in the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick on Saturday running race record time.

Cosmic Force led throughout for Tim Clark to win the 1200 metre sprint by a length and a quarter beating previously undefeated colt Standout, who beat him narrowly last time when he was resuming from a spell.

Cosmic Force - images Steve HartThe Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt has the impressive record of three wins and three seconds from seven starts with prizemoney topping $426,000 and is owned by a syndicate headed by Newgate Farm, who stand his sire.

"The Coolmore next run," said Paul Snowden.

"No doubt a lot of these horses will be meeting each other again in three weeks. Just need to keep him ticking over.

"He is pretty versatile. It is probably an asset that he has up his sleeve. He can handle those rain affected conditions. He has always been a nice quality colt in our bunch. He's put his hand up today."

A half-brother to the Group III winner Onemorezeta, Cosmic Force was a $180,000 purchase by China Horse Club Racing / Newgate Farm / WinStar from the Ascot Park draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Bred by Bob Hannon, who retains a share in his ownership, at his Ascot Park Stud west of Sydney, Cosmic Force is the sixth winner from seven to race out of the Commands mare Little Zeta who is a half-sister to Listed ATC Ming Dynasty Stakes winner and multiple Group placed More Than Great.

Little Zeta has a yearling filly by Your Song and was covered again last spring by Deep Field.

A record-breaking sprinter that won five of his eight starts, Deep Field is emerging as another successful sire son for ill-fated Northern Meteor and comes from the family of top-class sires Commands and Danewin.

He is the leading Australian second season sire by winners and earnings and stands at Newgate Farm this spring at a fee of $44,000.
