I Am Invincible Fillies Quinella Thoroughbred Club Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday October 12

Saturday's Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield was dominated by two fillies by I Am Invincible although for most punters the wrong one won.

The heavily backed odds-on favourite Loving Gaby could not close the gap on the front-running California Zimbol who came clear to win by two and a quarter lengths with the Street Boss (USA) filly Don'ttelltheboss two lengths back in third. (image Grant Courtney)

A dominant winner at Canterbury at her first start since a winter campaign in Brisbane, California Zimbol advanced her record to three wins and a second from five starts with earnings of $215,250.

"We've always had a big opinion od this filly and I think the making of her was going to Brisbane for a couple of runs. Since she has come back she has been a much more mature horse.

She has really furnished, filled that big frame and what you saw today is what we have been seeing at home so it was good to see her bring that to the races and show everyone just how good she is.

"She'll be here for the next three weeks, she's very talented and it won't be the last time she will be in the winner's circle that's for sure."

Foaled and raised at Yarraman, California Zimbol (pictured as a yearling)   is a half-sister to stakes-winners From Within and Cruden Bay being the fifth winner from five to race from the good producing Anabaa (USA) mare Zimaretto.

Yarraman Park sold the full brother to California Zimbol at Magic Millions earlier this year for $360,000 to Edmonds Rcg/ Blue Sky B/S (FBAA)/Raffles Rcg. Zimaretto has a yearling colt to follow by Astern.

She was covered by I Am Invincible again last season but missed.

California Zimbol becomes the 49th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park Stud's super stallion I Am Invincible.
