Burgundy Rose Adds Another Chapter to Family Success

Media Release - Thursday October 10

Burgundy's 3yo daughter Burgundy Rose added another chapter of success for the family of successful trainer Jamie Richards at Taupo on Wednesday.

Burgundy"My grandparents Garry and Lorraine McDonell raced Random Chance. They won him in a raffle and he went on to win the 2000 Guineas for trainer Brian Anderton before becoming a South Island sire," said Burgundy's Rose's trainer Jamie Richards.

"Burgundy Rose is the first horse my grandparents have raced with the Te Akau team.

"She was bred by David (Ellis) and Karyn (Fenton-Ellis). They syndicated her as a weanling, which brought in a heap of new owners for not a lot of money at all."

Having previously placed second in both of her career starts, Burgundy Rose registered today's maiden-debunking win under jockey Chelsea Burdan (a3) with 6.25 lengths to spare at the line

"That was quite an impressive win over a handy field. She has a little bit of speed and gets along well. There's room for improvement with her, so all things going to plan, she'll win more," said Richards.

Burgundy Rose is out of the 6-time winning Faltaat mare Paraiba. She has now had three winners by Burgundy from as many to race, with Burgundy Rose's joining likes with the Singapore winner Hallelujah and Australian winner Anchorman.

Paraiba is due to foal to Burgundy again in 2019.
