Debut Proisir Winner to Seek Black Type

Media Release - Thursday October 3

The Andrew Campbell-trained Pimlico proved too slick for his rivals when winning over 1200m on debut at Waverley on Thursday and the son of Proisir will now be aimed at a tilt at black-type.

ProisirRidden by Jason Waddell, Pimlico sat just off the leaders before finding the front rounding the home bend and lengthening nicely in the straight to win by a length and three-quarters.

"It was the sort of performance we were hoping to see, but we were pretty worried about the track (Heavy10)," Campbell said.

"Jason was pretty happy with him and he reckons that he didn't handle the track, so to win under those circumstances is very encouraging.

"He'll go to the Sarten Memorial (Gr.2, 1400m) at Te Rapa and providing he fronts up there we will possibly have a crack at the 2000 Guineas (Gr.1, 1600m)."

Pimlico was $75,000 Karaka Book One purchase for his trainer from the Highline Thoroughbred draft.

Meanwhile, Campbell will line-up another smart three-year-old when Peloton, a one-win son of Charm Spirit contests the US Navy Flag @ Valachi Downs 1600m at Te Rapa on Friday.

"It is hard to go from winning a maiden to running in a Rating 65 against older horses," Campbell said.

"We will see how he goes tomorrow, but if he won and won well, I think Tommy (Heptinstall), the owner was looking at options potentially across the ditch. But it all depends on what happens tomorrow."
