Dream Ahead's Renewal Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Sunday September 29

Honest, Dream Ahead (USA) gelding Renewal defied the pattern of the day when he came from the tail of the field to earn a maiden stakes win in Sunday's Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

Among the best to begin Renewal was taken back in the field as Dwayne Dunn searched for some cover.

When it looked likely that the pacesetting Zoustyle and the Godolphin runner Haunted would fight the race out, Renewal swooped down the centre of the track to defeat Zoustyle (Zoustar) by a half-head with Haunted (Lonhro) a nose back in third.

Trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Renewal made it three wins in succession after a pair of wins over 1400 metres at Randwick.

"He has a terrible run in transit but Dwayne didn't panic and he saved it till the last bit and hit the line well," Wayne Hawkes said.

Part-owned by Trevor Lobb, Renewal advances his record to 7 wins, 1 second and 3 thirds from 16 starts with earnings of $421,340.

Bred by Tareena Bloodstock, he is the best of two winners from three named foals of the 4-time winning Domesday mare Renascent a half-sister to Group II ATC Shannon Stakes winner Vashka (Exceed And Excel) out of the stakes-placed Zabeel mare Zaroyale.

Renascent has a yearling colt by All Too Hard and was covered by Scat Daddy's dual Group 1 winning son Caravaggio (USA) last spring.

Renewal becomes the 26th stakes-winner for the 5-time Group 1 winner Dream Ahead (USA) who shuttled to Emirates Park for seven seasons (2012-2018).
