Savabeel Filly Acting a Star on the Rise

Mark Smith - Sunday September 29

Punters were on the ropes shortly after the start of Sunday's $250,000 Group II Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield when the well-supported Godolphin trio of Lyre, Flit and Tenley were back at the tale of the field on a track that had been playing on speed all day, so it was set up for a shock result.

Acting - image Darryl ShererTommy Berry made the most of the inside barrier on the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Savabeel filly Acting who was never headed in a one and a half-length win over the $1,250,000 Fastnet Rock filly Southbank with the Foxwedge filly Barbie's Fox a short-head back in third.

A homebred for the Chittick family's Waikato Stud, Acting was making just her fourth start. She came in to the race of the back of wins at Echuca at Sandown.

"A fantastic filly, carrying a fantastic set of colours and by a great stallion, there is not a lot else to say," Busuttin said.

"This is the best horse in our stable, no doubt. It's great to get a Group II for her breeders and we will be back in a couple of weeks for the Group 1."

Acting is one of two winners out of the Moonee Valley winning Pins mare Hollywood who is a daughter of one of the most accomplished horses to carry the Waikato Stud silks.

She is the Tale Of The Cat (USA) mare Glamour Puss whose nine wins included the Group 1 VRC Salinger Stakes and Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Hcp on the way to banking $1,236,300.

A half-sister to Vision and Power and Rare Insight, Glamour Puss has not left anything in her class although she has eight foals make the track and all are winners including the stakes-placegetters Beckham (Pins) and Ngarimu (Savabeel).

Sadly, Acting is the foal foal of Hollywood who died in 2016 before foaling a full sibling to Acting who becomes the 90th stakes-winner for champion stallion Savabeel.
