Greg Polson previews Murwillumbah Friday August 25

Greg Polson - Friday August 25

Jockey Matthew McGuren started the working week with a winning double at Grafton on Monday and a similar result is on the cards at Murwillumbah on Friday including a great ride in the Murwillumbah Cup.

McGuren knows his way around Murwillumbah and boasts a winning strike rate of 25 percent including eight winners at the track during the last racing season that ended on July 31.

McGuren has four rides on Murwillumbah Cup day but two mounts standout including the Bruce W Hill-trained Liberty Island in the day's feature, The Riverview Hotel Murwillumbah Cup (1530m).

Liberty Island was originally trained by Chris Waller and was twice a metropolitan winner before transferring to the Hill stables at the Gold Coast with the son of Statue Of Liberty hitting his straps in recent start winning two of his last four and will be chasing back to back wins on Friday after a class five victory at Doomben on August 16.

Liberty Island drops half a kilo in weight from his latest outing and is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier five.

Liberty Island looks set to continue his winning form and rates as the day's best bet.

McGuren rides Martial Art for Matthew Dunn in the Gold Coast Skydive Class 2 Handicap (1530m) with the five-year-old gelding ready to win having his third run back from a spell after finishing a close third at Ipswich last time when he was run down late.

Martial Art gets the chance to return to the winner's list with two runs under his belt.

McGuren's remaining rides are Martial Art's stablemate Red Bowers in the Tursa Employment and Training Murwillumbah Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and the Andrew Cowell-trained Godwood in the JH Williams Tygalgah Cup Benchmark 66 Handicap (2020m).
