Nostradamus Trialler A Sign of Future Riches?

Media Release - Tuesday September 17

The first of the Nostradamus (Medaglia D'Oro – Leone Chiara) progeny to trial has proven to be a big surprise packet for star Queensland trainer Liam Birchley. Latin Prophet, a Nostradamus colt out of Fastnet Rock mare Isle Du Cap ran an impressive hard-held second in a 650m Deagan trial to have Birchley eyeing off yet another Karaka Millions.

Nostradamus"He's a late foal and I did something I never ever do. I galloped him on Friday over 400m in his first piece of serious work. He bounced out of that so well that when I saw these trials scheduled I thought I may as well bowl him around behind them and get a barrier certificate before he heads to the paddock. He really surprised me how well he's gone and just how professional he was," Birchley said.

Birchley purchased the son of Nostradamus at the NZB Karaka sales in January for $28,000 from the Mapperley Stud draft. Bred by Rosemont Stud, he is the first foal of Fastnet Rock mare Isle Du Cap who is a half sister to stakes winner Yesterday's Songs and Group-placed Rahveel.

"He seems above average, that's for sure. He's just been so professional in the two efforts we've asked of him so far including this morning. We will take a conservative approach and geld him and put him in the paddock now to bring him back for a Karaka Millions prep. He looks the ideal horse for that," Birchley said.

The champion Queensland trainer has won the Karaka Millions twice with Sister Havana (2010) and Hardline (2015).

Nostradamus' oldest are now 2yos and he was the most popular first season stallion in Victoria in his freshman year, giving him a few bullets to fire in the first season stallion's race. The son of Medaglia D'Oro stands for $8800 at Rosemont Stud this season.
