Aussie Bred Mare Produces $4.1million Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 11
Setting the pace during the second session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Book 1 at $4,1million is the Curlin colt from Australian bred Group I winner Bounding.

The Champion Sprinter in New Zealand where she won the Group I ARC Railway Handicap, Bounding was bought by Stonestreet Holdings for $1.9 million at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when she was offered by Willow Park Stud straight off the track.

Sent straight back to North America, the daughter of Lonhro was covered by Curlin in her first season at stud and that colt has proven a sale ring star with Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin securing the youngster for $4.1million ($A5.9million).

Between when Stonestreet bought Bounding and now a lot has happened in the pedigree, most notably that Bounding's half-brother Anthony Van Dyck won the Group I Epsom Derby earlier this year and that has made her well worth the money they paid for her and then some.

"He's a very athletic horse, a lovely well balanced horse from a good farm and we liked him very much. He just had wonderful movement and athleticism," said Anthony Stroud acting for Godolphin, who outbid the Coolmore team to secure the star colt.

The sale continues.
