Derby Dreamer for Dundeel

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 8
Brilliant Melbourne stakes-winner The Inevitable was not the only interesting winner by his sire Dundeel on Saturday with the Anderson Heathcote stable in Brisbane harbouring long range Queensland Derby plans for their promising Dundeel three year-old Profit.

Profit as a yearlingProfit made it two wins in as many starts at Eagle Farm on Saturday when surging to the line to win over 1400 metres by more than a length.

"We have plenty of horses but on potential Profit is the best in the stable," Heathcote said after the race.

"He did a lot wrong and won his first start at Caloundra. Then today he has sat three deep the whole way at the back of the field but has blown them away.

"We have thought he had the potential to be a Group horse for some time."

The Queensland Derby is the long term goal for Profit, who was a $280,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Arrowfield draft for DGR Tbreds P/L (FBAA)/Chris Anderson Racing and runs for a syndicate that includes Think Big Stud managed by DGR Thoroughbreds Duncan Ramage and the Estate of the late Dato Tan Chin Nam.

Profit is a half-brother to stakes-placed Rifleman and Geromayo and is the fourth winner from Redoute's Choice stakes-winner Opportunity, who was fourth in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes. Further back it's the family of Golden Slipper winner Catbird, Group I winning mare Ike's Dream and a Queensland Derby winner in Half Hennessy.

Opportunity has been married to Dundeel in recent years and has a two year-old colt and yearling to follow by the champion son of High Chaparral (IRE) and is in foal to him again.
