Beautifully bred debut winner - why the big price?

Breednet - Thursday August 24
Superbly bred and winner of his only trial, Workdrinks curiously started at the roughies odds of $21 but it didn't stop him making a winning debut.

Workdrinks as a yearlingWith a very short priced favourite in Misty Lad there was always going to be some sort of value and perhaps the wide gate put the punters off too but Workdrinks quickly took that out of play, showing good speed to cross and lead on the fence.

In the straight he was challenged more than once but found a good turn of foot despite looking a bit green and by the time the post arrived he had ears pricked and two lengths on them.

By Fastnet Rock out of Slapstick, Workdrinks was a $460,000 buy from the Amarina Farm draft at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by Victorian trainer Mick Price, however he now races in the colours of Jadesky Racing from the Brad Widdup stable at Hawkesbury.

Slapstick is a Group Three winner of the Keith Nolan Classic at Kembla Grange and out of the stakesplaced Red Ransom mare Glasnost, a half-sister to the top ranked Australasian filly of 2006 Virage De Fortune and also another stakeswinner in Avenue.

Her third dam is the great racemare Emancipation.

Workdrinks is the second foal and first winner for his dam who has a Redoute's Choice two-year-old and was served by Fastnet Rock last season.

It was the second big priced winner for the Jadesky/Widdup team after they had scored with another debutante, Dancers earlier in the day, this time combined with Werrett Bloodstock.

A $230,000 yearling buy from the Kitchwin Hills Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Dancers is by Husson from Viennese Lass, an unraced Redoute's Choice mare out of the stakesplaced Weiner, a half-sister to champion sire Snitzel.
