Another Spring Contender for So You Think

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 6
The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman stable already have one potential spring star by So You Think in exciting colt Quick Thinker and they may have another after highly promising Long Jack scored an impressive maiden win at Ballarat on Friday.

So You Think A homebred for Australian breeders Fergus and Delia Doyle, Long Jack had two starts in New Zealand last season finishing second at Matamata and then second in a Listed race at Ellerslie before spelling.

Making his first appearance since then, Long Jack was a hot favourite for the 1400 metre maiden and despite being forced to cover ground all the way was far too strong in the run home to win by more than two lengths.

Entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas, Long Jack has a big European Black type pedigree that would suggest he could be well suited in longer races as well if the VRC Derby was on the radar.

He is the first foal from Monsun mare Extravaganza (Ger), a full sister to Group III winning German stayer Energizer. Further back the family features Group I winners Magic of Life, Inara and Joshua Tree.

Extravaganza has since gone to Teofilo (IRE) producing a two year-old colt, Maurice (Jpn) for a yearling filly and she was covered last year by Galileo's star son Churchill (IRE), so the Doyles are obviously looking to breed a classic style of horse.
