Winning Run for O'Lonhro

Media Release - Wednesday August 28

It appears that 'The Black Flash' reputation of Lonhro has not fallen far from the tree. O'Lonhro, who not only bears a striking resemblance to Lonhro, is also producing winners on the racetrack in a similar fashion to the great stallion.

Earlier in the month at Sandown Park, two fillies sired by O'Lonhro were in the winner's circle as well as a placegetter on the same day and a city winner on Saturday. First into the circle was Lady Solly, who John Allen took to victory with an impressive performance over 1000 metres. This filly showed a similar performance at Ballarat a few weeks earlier and currently holds $85,250 of earnings to her name from just seven starts.

Second into the circle came Bettyrae Ruby, in a fillies and mares race over 1300 metres. A mare that has had some time away from the racetrack due to injury but has certainly returned with a bang putting in a dominant performance. Her prizemoney stands at over $152,000 and we look forward to seeing what is to come.

During his career O'Lonhro was unbeaten as a three-year-old and, prior to retiring to stud, won the AJC Chelmsford Stakes beating Triple Honour (who himself won the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap) and second in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes with over $220,000 of prizemoney.

"He's just a very stable stallion all the way through. He just hasn't got the big superstars that everyone expects". remarks Neville Murdoch from Larneuk Stud.

O'Lonhro is now standing at Larneuk Stud in the heart of Victoria and currently has over seventy winners with $4 million in prizemoney. We are now seeing winners from 2-year-old sprinters to six-year-old staying horses and consequently seeing the O'Lonhro pedigree more predominantly on the track. This stallion is proving his range of ability and it is evident with the results we are seeing.

An impressive statistic which Neville highlighted,"He currently has 60% winners to runner's ratio."

"He is more a breed to race type of horse and is as good as any other horse on percentages. He is getting horses going out and winning races all day long," said Neville.

Larneuk Stud also stands Cluster, a stallion who just turned three but already has had a Stakes placed horse. The stud is certainly making a name for itself with the current run of success we are seeing.

"We have exciting times here but we are not so much known as a big commercial farm. We breed one hundred and twenty horses a year and foal down eighty a year. We do walk outs for other clients as well. We are more of niche market". Neville explained.

There is no wonder that he is currently rated one of the best valued sires in Victoria with an impressive pedigree, success on the racetrack and a fee of $5,500 inc GST.
