One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 22
Fairway Thoroughbreds have bred and sold the best including Winx and Vancouver, but a Lonhro filly they decided to retain is our ‘One to Watch’ for Thursday at Hawkesbury.

Lonhro Three year-old filly Darling Point was a luckless second on debut at Canterbury in June, but made no mistakes this time around.

The Brad Widdup trained filly raced up on the pace and forged clear to win the 1300 metre maiden by a length as a short priced favourite.

Darling Point is entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and has a pedigree that would suggest a mile would hold no fears for her.

She is the first winner for former classy Fastnet Rock mare Empress Rock, who won the Group II VRC Kewney Stakes at a mile and is a half-sister to Fiera Vista, who won the Listed SAJC Morphettville Guineas at a mile.

Further back the family has plenty of speed with highlight horses world champion sprinter Silent Witness and Group II winner Sister Madly.

Empress Rock has a yearling filly by Sebring, but no foal this spring after missing to I Am Invincible.
