Successful Weekend at Spendthrift’s Stallion Parades

Media Release - Tuesday August 20

Spendthrift Australia held their annual stallion parades on Friday and Saturday, with breeders taking the first glimpse at high-profile new recruit Bolt d'Oro (USA).

Bolt D'Oro impressed local breedersStanding for an introductory fee of $13,750 plus GST, the shuttle sire proved to be a major drawcard with a strong turnout for both parades.

"It's been a great couple of days," said General Manager Garry Cuddy. "It's the biggest crowd we've ever had, which is fantastic and very encouraging for the future.

"I think the introduction of Bolt d'Oro was a big part of that."

"He made an outstanding impression in our parades. He came out and posed for the cameras."

A son of proven world-class stallionMedaglia d'Oro(USA), Bolt d'Oro is a half-brother to two stakes winners. He surpassed those siblings' achievements with brilliant victories in the Group 1 Del Mar Futurity and FrontRunner Stakes as a 2-year-old, then won the Group 2 San Felipe Stakes as a 3-year-old.

Gold Standard, Hampton Court, Jimmy Creed (USA), Overshare and Swear complete the young Spendthrift roster and were also well received by breeders.

Yearlings by Swear were paraded for the crowd

"There was really good feedback on all of the stallions," Cuddy said. "Particularly with horses like Gold Standard and Overshare, I think people were very impressed this year in comparison to what they saw last year. They've developed really well."

It was only timely that both Gold Standard ($5,500) and Overshare ($11,000) had their first foals born over the weekend, and we look forward to seeing more of their progeny on the ground this spring.

The oldest progeny by Hampton Court and Jimmy Creed, who stand for $5,500 and $8,800 respectively, are 3-year-olds this season. Jimmy Creed is off to a phenomenal start in the northern hemisphere with over 73% runners to winner, and a similar story is starting to be told in Australia with two winners from three runners last season.

Swear, whose fee is $5,500, will have his first yearlings through the ring in the coming season.

The entire team at Spendthrift Australia would like to thank everyone who joined us over the weekend.
