Record Trade at Arqana August

The strong trade for top calibre individuals that was evident over the weekend continued during Part II, the third and final day of the August Yearling Sale, on Monday. 

With 161 yearlings going through the ring, figures showed a similar clearance rate to last year with 73 per cent sold, up by almost two points. The average price also increased to €87,128, while the overall turnover for the day was up nine per cent at over €10,000,000. A total of 39 lots made €100,000 or morecompared to 31 in 2018.

Sea the stars filly from Tales of ValourA daughter of Sea The Stars sold for €320,000 to Stroud Coleman

Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux (lot 193), a daughter of Sea The Stars from the family of leading stallion INVINCIBLE SPIRIT made€320,000 to Anthony Stroud, represented by Sally-Ann Grassick. 

"She's been bought for an existing client of Anthony's. He said she's a very nice filly from a good family."

Mandore International Agency signs for three of the top five lots

Extremely active during the third day, Nicolas de Watrigant boughtsix lots, including lot 186, a daughter of Sea The Stars out of German Listed winner SOHO ROSE for €200,000.

He said, "Jean Lesbordes said she looks like Urban Sea that he trained. We are very happy to buy this filly for Mrs Tsui. We are strong supporters of her stallion - she's going to be trained by William Haggas. We hope she's going to be the new Sea of Class." Lesbordes added, "It was love at first sight."

Mandore International Agency also bought a daughter of Shalaa on behalf of Alain Jathiere out of a daughter of Prix de l'Opéra (Gr.1) winner SATWA QUEEN for €260,000. She was consigned by Haras de Montaigu (lot 169). In addition, he also signed for IRISH TRIP (lot 306)from Haras des Capucines for M.V Magnier.

A daughter of Teofilo out of Quanzhou knocked down for €220,000

A daughter of Teofiloout of Listed winning Dubawi mare QUANZHOU from the family of the Prix du Cadran (Gr.1) winner MILLE ET MILLE was bought by Yeguada Centurion for €220,000. She was offered from Haras de la Perelle as lot 325.

"It's the Dubawi x Galileo cross that convinced us to buy her. She'll be broken in Spain and go into pre-training before joining Carlos Laffon-Parias who has horses for us already, including one that runs tomorrow in the ARQANA Prix de Montaigu (LA VENUS ESPAGNOLA)," said the buyer.

Overall figures for the August Yearling Sale: a record turnover and average

The 2019 edition of the sale ended with highs in all areas. The overall turnover for the auction reached €43,019,000 (+17 per cent), while the clearance rate also increased (76 per cent) with a slight decrease in the number of yearlings offered. The averageregistered a large rise at €187,039 (+17 per cent), the highest figure on record.
