Myboycharlie's Sistercharlie Goes Back To Back in Beverley D

Mark Smith - Sunday August 11

With Charossa making it three consecutive wins at Flemington on Saturday and the recent victory of Azuro in the Listed Brisbane Cup it underscores what an underappreciated stallion Myboycharlie (IRE) was and it was hammered home again at Arlington International Racecourse on Saturday when Sistercharlie (IRE) wrote her name in the record books.

The 5yo Chad Brown-trained mare charged home under John Velazquez to dominate the Gr 1 Beverley D Stakes to become the first mare to achieve the feat of winning consecutive runnings.

It was also the fifth consecutive Grade 1 win for the daughter of Myboycharlie (IRE).

I was a  memorable day for Brown as he captured all the Grade 1's on the card with Valid Point capturing the $500,000 Secretariat Stakes and Bricks and Mortar (Giant's Causeway) in the Arlington Million.

In defeating Awesometank (GB) by three lengths in course record time, Sistercharlie advanced her record to 9 wins and 3 seconds from 13 starts with earnings of $US3,207,003.

Sweet pickings for a filly that cost just €12,000 at Arqanna in 2015.

"She's the horse of a lifetime," said trainer Chad Brown who won his fifth straight Beverly D. "It is such an honour to be associated with her."

Brown said he is likely to chart a path for the mare to defend her title in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf but owner Peter Brant said he would be keen to take on Enable if the superstar came back to defend her title in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Brown seemed less enthused about the idea.

Of course, Myboycharlie (IRE) has to share the spotlight with Sistercharlie's dam Starlet's Sister.

Though she retired from the racetrack a maiden, the daughter of Galileo has produced this year's French Derby winner Sottsass (Siyouni) and the Group III winner My Sister Nat (Acclamation).

Starlet's Sister has a 2-year-old colt named Radiant Child (Charm Spirit), who was purchased by Sistercharlie's owner Peter Brant for €400,000 at the 2018 Arqana August Yearling Sale.

She has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock that is catalogued at Arqana next week and a filly foal by Dubawi (Ire).
