Gamechanger Internship Well Received

Media Release - Wednesday August 7

Westbury Stud recently launched a new industry initiative known as the GAMECHANGER, a programme which focuses on attracting and retaining talent in the thoroughbred industry.

The Westbury Cadets, Morgan and Abigail. The concept has been very well received with excellent feedback and support from the industry overall. We have had an encouraging group of applicants apply and with the interview process now complete we are very pleased to announce Jamie Otto has been successful in the selection process and will fulfill the 2019-20 internship.

"I'm very passionate about this industry and I'm thrilled to be offered the internship," commented successful applicant Jamie Otto. "The opportunities to progress in this industry are very hard to come by and to have my employer Westbury identify this ongoing concern and create this initiative is a positive not onlyfor myself but for those who complete the programme in the future and for the overall benefit of the industry."

The programme has been designed to publicly recognise and inspire personal growth by creating career pathways whilst building depth of technical skill. Over the next 12-months Jamie will spend time in each division at Westbury Stud gaining an understanding in all facets of the business from equine and on-farm skills to administration and management as well as international exposure of the thoroughbred industry.

"I have worked with horses in various roles for many years and I'm looking forward to completing this internship with experience and a skill set that deepens my knowledge and develop strong people management skills that I can take forward with me in my career," Otto said. The second programme the WESTBURY CADETS has also been very well received and we're excited to introduce Morgan and Abigail as our first Cadets. While neither Morgan or Abigail had anyprevious experience working with horses they ticked all the boxes in having a keen interest, a willingness to learn and an unstoppable attitude.

The Cadets are underway in their six-month placement where they will be exposed to the industry, have an introduction to each department, learn life skills and find out what it means to be in the workforce.

We will be following Jamie, Morgan and Abigail with regular updates as they progress through the two programmes.
