Moonee Valley Winner for Rubick

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 3
Exciting young sire Rubick has wasted no time posting his first winner of the new season with a well deserved victory at Moonee Valley on Saturday for super consistent Condo's Express.

Second at his first three outings in June and July, the Richard Laming trained colt can now head for a well earned break as a winner after proving too strong in the open juvenile event over 1000 metres.

Fitted with blinkers for the first time and with the benefit of fitness and race experience on his side, Condo's Express (image Grant Courtney) powered home from last in the field of seven to win by a length.

Condo's Express was a modestly priced yearling, bought for just $3,000 from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale by his trainer.

"Gary Condon that owns Condon Horse Transport did the bidding for me that day and he said to me 'who owns him?' and I said 'well you own half!" said Richard Laming.

RubickThe bargain buy has proven an inspired won as Condo's Express has already won over $90,000 in prizemoney.

"He's done a great job to have three seconds and a win in his first preparation," Laming added.

"He was always going to he paddock after today, win, lose or draw."

Condo's Express is the first winner for Braided, a placed half-sister by Elusive Quality (USA) to stakes-winner Wild Ash.

Condo's Express is the 16th first crop winner for Rubick and his first of the new season.

Rubick stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $38,500.
