Spring Hopefuls Step Out at Randwick Trials

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 30
The Randwick barrier trials on Tuesday morning featured a host of stakes performers gearing up for spring including Godolphin's multiple Group I winning mare Alizee and top class juvenile filly Anaheed, who was last seen winning the $1million Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes.

AlizeeThe James Cummings trained Alizee surged to the line for Hugh Bowman under a hold to score a soft length and a quarter win in her 900 metre heat over imported Scat Daddy mare Con Te Partiro (USA).

Godolphin own one of the four remaining open slots for the $14million The Everest after purchasing Damion Flower's vacant slot earlier this month and Alizee will be among their contenders for the race with the Group II ATC Missile Stakes on August 10 indicated as her return assignment.

The best offspring of Golden Slipper winner Sepoy, Alizee has already won over $2.2 million in prizemoney.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Fastnet Rock filly Anaheed was having her second trial after enjoying a winter spell and hit the line full of running under a tight hold from Tim Clark to win her 1050 metre heat by two lengths with ears pricked.

AnaheedFoaled and raised at Coolmore, Anaheed is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and has won over $950,000 with three wins from six starts.

A couple of rising three year-olds that did not win stakes races this season, but showed serious stakes potential in Athiri (Lonhro) and Dawn Passage (Dawn Approach (IRE) were also winners of their respective heats.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Dawn Passage won a strong 900 metre heat for Group and Listed horses with exciting I Am Invincible filly Libertini steaming home for second.

Both horses appeal as potential rising stars of the Sydney spring.
