Better Than Ready Hits 21

Mark Smith - Wednesday July 17

Lyndhurst Stud's long-time front-runner Better Than Ready continues to repel the formidable challenges of Deep Field and Rubick for number of individual winners by a first season sire after Golly Hut broke his maiden at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday to become winner number 21.

Ridden by Baylee Nothdurft for trainer Malcolm Reynolds, the 30/1 outsider finished strongly in the closing stages to defeat the better-fancied Better Than Ready, Betaina by a neck.

The 2yo gelding made his career debut on the same track ten days back when he was bumped at the start and was forced to race wide the trip before finishing an honourable fifth behind Top Society who was over five lengths adrift on Wednesday.

Golly Hut is the second winner from three to race out of the unraced Sequalo mare Flawless Curves who is a sister to the Listed stakes-winner Holding.

Better Than Ready becomes the most prolific first season sire for number of winners in Australia this century.

The son of More Than Ready (USA) has earned an increase in fee to $33,000 at Lyndhurst Stud in 2019.
