Too Darn Hot Returns to Best

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 8
The Champion 2YO Colt in Europe last year when undefeated, classy Dubawi colt Too Darn Hot has had a mixed start to the new season when failing to win in his first three starts back, but dropped back to seven furlongs on Sunday for the Group I Prix Jean Prat at Deauville he emerged triumphant.

While his pedigree might indicate Too Darn Hot should be able to handle longer trips, racetrack evidence would suggest speed may be his forte.

"I was very clear that we have not been clever with Too Darn Hot this season," said John Gosden.

"He's very fast, he proved that as a 2yo, and so coming back to 7f was ideal but he could still get an easy mile. He was champion 2yo running over seven and now we'll play to his strengths rather than playing to his weaknesses. I should probably be running him in the July Cup next week! It's lovely to be here in this race and he's shown his class again. Next will either be the Prix Jacques Le Marois or the Sussex Stakes."

Too Darn Hot won all four starts at two with a highlight victory in the Group I Dewhurst Stakes over 7f and now has the overall record of four wins and three palcigns from seven starts.

A homebred for Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber of Watership Down Stud, Too Darn Hot is a full brother to high class Group winning mares Lah Ti Dar and So Mi Dar, who were both successful over long distances and they are out of Singspiel mare Dar Re Mi, a triple Group I winner up to 2500m that was the Champion Older Mare of GB in 2009.

The current two year-old from Dar Re Mi, another colt by Dubawi, topped Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year when sold to David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Racing for 3,500,000gns. Now named Darain, he is also in training with Gosden.
