Country Star Beats the City Slickers

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 3
A bargain buy from the Gooree Stud Reduction in 2018, four year-old Commands mare Worldly Pleasure has been a busy and successful racehorse this season racking up a string of wins at country tracks with her trainer Dean Mirfin electing to bring her to town on Wednesday for a Benchmark 70 with happy results all round.

The late great Commands is the sire of Worldly PleasureA last start winner at Bathurst where she led all the way, Worldly Pleasure adopted similar tactics under Eleanor Webster-Hawes in this 1100 metre dash and refused to lie down, claiming a neck win over the city slickers with race favourite Brazilica a fading fourth.

Eleanor Webster-Hawes has a great partnership with Worldly Pleasure and had been aboard her in four of her previous five wins.

"She's been a great little mare and very brave," she said, adding it was her first metropolitan win as a jockey.

Worldly Pleasure was bought for just $5,500 at the Inglis Broodmare and Weanling Sale in 2018 as part of a Gooree Stud reduction as an unraced three year-old.

She has proven the gift that keeps on giving having 13 starts since then for six wins and over $80,000 in prizemoney.

"To come all the way from Bathurst this morning and win is just the biggest thrill," said co-owner Paul Deal.

A half-sister to Group III placed Agueda, she is one of eight winners from good producer Smoothie, a half-sister to Gooree Stud's Group III winner Who Did It.
