Galileo's Igraine Books a Date With Fastnet Rock

Mark Smith - Saturday June 29

Carrying the colours of the Taylor family's famed Trelawney Stud, the Galileo mare Igraine (GER) bowed out of racing on a winning note in Saturday's $175,000 Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) and booked a date with Coolmore Stud's champion Fastnet Rock.

Holidaying in Spain, Trelawney Stud owners Brent and Cherry Taylor watched on as Robbie Fradd guided Igraine (GER) to a two and a quarter length romp over Sopressa (So You Think) with one and a quarter lengths to Travistee (Tavistock) in third.

It was the second stakes win for the Robert Priscott-trained mare who was purchased by Paul Moroney for 65,000 guineas at the December Tattersall's Breeding Stock Sale after she had finished fifth to subsequent American Grade 1 winner A Raving Beauty in a Listed race in her native Germany.

Priscott said they may look at the Grafton Cup before Ingraine (GER) retires to stud.

"She won well today, she enjoys the ground that's made the world of difference," Priscott said.

"Robbie (Fradd) rode her brilliantly and I was very confident when he peeled out in the straight.

"This race wasn't his main target, the Brisbane Cup was, but things didn't quite go to plan, the tracks were a bit firm for her in her three starts.

"She's going to stud in New South Wales later this year, so we've got a decision to make where we take her."

Robbie Fradd said the daughter of Galileo (image Mark Smith ) relished the track.

"I think I was on the right filly, being German bred she flourished on this kind of track, carrying 54 kilos she gets through it no trouble, she was doing her best work at the end," Fradd said.

"I hit a few of those bad patches in the run, but she just kept travelling the whole way, a big thank you to Robert Priscott."

A half-sister to Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern winner Ito (Adlerflug) the Champion Older Horse (long) in Germany in 2015, Igraine (GER) is one of five winners from as many to race out of the Group 1 German Oaks winner Ioata.

A daughter of Tiger Hill (Danehill), Iota is a half-sister to Group III winner Illo (Tertullian) who was a multiple stakes placgetter in Australia for Chris Waller and finished fourth in Black Caviar's Group 1 CF Orr Stakes in 2012.

Iota's half-sister Oannina (Rainbow Quest) was honoured as Champion Older Female in Germany in 2007 and was placed in the Group 1 Preis von Europa.
